I recently had my gait analyzed by Julie Young and it has changed my running FOREVER.
By capturing video, breaking down the stride at key points in the gait cycle, and analyzing it, Julie found a few weak links in stability and mobility that we are now working to improve. There were a couple things which stood out and we were able to change before the Reno Tahoe Odyssey (RTO).
- No arm movement (started swinging my arms with controlled forward and backward movement).
- Long Stride ( shortened my stride, i currently do not have the hip mobility and glute max strength to support a longer stride, but we are working to improve these limiting factors).
- TIGHT Hips (Some serious stretching and mobility work, as well as activation of the muscles, ie glute medius that should be working better which will also help reduce the tightness, guising as stability).
I was able to work on these three things during the RTO and went from running a 8:05 pace for all three legs last year, to running this year at an average 7:24 and a whopping 7:18 for 6 miles on my last leg. I would definitely call this a big WIN and can’t wait to see where this takes me in the future.
